Can't You See?

A childhood. What does it do? How can it shape someone? Are you suddenly an adult when you have your first kiss? When that innocence is tossed away as you realize that life is going to be cruel?
The formative years. The days when the sun beat down on our naked backs and we didn't care if our shirts would stick to our sweaty skin. All that mattered was that one last game of tag was played, that last addition to the sand castle was done.
In those days we had it all, even the dream of one day being able to fly was always on our mind.

“Amusement park rides are vehicles for enacting fantasies for both children and adults alike. They simulate flight, daring sea adventures, and encounters with other worldly creatures. From the moment we strap ourselves into our seats, we surrender ourselves to these giant machines and the physical release they provide. The experience combines elation with fear; thrills with chills.”

If there was one thing I miss, its the freedom.

Manifest Equality

A few weeks ago I found this website that had pictures from an art gallery that had happened that weekend. I was really sad that I missed it since it was dedicated to the fight for gay marriage!
Here's my favorites from the collection.
FIGHT!

Under The Rocks

Just doing major internet surfing and little surprises keep falling into my lap.
Here's a few I though you might like.

The Good:

It looks like its time to pull out that red velvet coat that's been gathering dust in the closet. I haven't worn it since fall '09! Le gasp! Its going to be so retro! *please know that I'm being extremely sarcastic ;]
I actually do own a coat, and I'm happy that I never throw things away! They're just put into storage for a few years or so.
But I'm extremely attracted to the short velvet dresses, especially the 1st collection right one (Alexander Wang fall '10) and 2nd collection middle one (Zac Posen fall '10).

An uprising of DIY items have wrapped their suction-cupped fingers around our creative minds and haven't let go. Especially since nobody has any money to buy things, its always the better alternative to just do it yourself. And then you have the wonderful rights to brag about how the studded jacket your wearing was created by you!
But with the recent fashion weeks mania, the new DIY item has moved from studding to painting.

The only disagreement I have is ruining a perfectly good pair of Oxfords with paint. Other than that, take those jeans and go crazy. It looks ridiculously good when done right. Perfect center piece for an outfit that's made to draw attention.
Make yours today!

A fond trend that I still secretly love with a passion is fake nails. I stuck with acrylics for about 4 months I think. Four months of lovely square nails that I ardently kept in pristine perfection, with each new paint job styled after the one and only Bill Kaulitz :D Due to...certain circumstances I had to let them go. I can tell you that it pays a pretty penny to keep them good every 2 weeks, on the clock.
Anywhos! Acrylics are making an impressive comeback!

I'm a sucker for these! Look at all the little glitters spots, and claws, and patterns! Man, I'm just too fashion forward since I started doing all these new trends back when I was a sophmore.(which was SO long ago)

The Bad:
(Edit)
Robyn has enlightened me. The only problem I have with military motif is that its too plain, which others might like. Robyn's still the only person I know who can pull it off.

Let's move on, shall we?

...?

I'm still really confused.

WTF

People. These will never, ever be ok. Is America going to suffer through another Crocs phase? OR WORSE! The everlasting 'Uggs are still cool guys!'
For the love of god, no they're not.

I never want to be compared to an Amish woman, Alexander Wang.
Yes, the look on the right is good. Basically its just a select few looks in the new T look that lack any sort of creativity.

I'm wondering what other sorts of thing will be happening this year.

Childhood Haunts

Don't you love it when a conversation starts with 'Hey, do you remember that one TV show from when we were younger...' And then all the pieces fall into place and you're remembering those Saturday mornings in your onesie pjs, slurping cereal with eyes glued to the screen.

For me I was a huge fan of Sesame Street. These were the days when kids shows were educational, not stupid. (Dora the Explorer was something I could never stomach, even though it taught me spanish) Others were hard-core fans of the Muppets, but the only thing I've ever seen with them in it is 'Muppets A Christmas Carol' which i LOVE watching all the time.

Anyways, today I stumbled across a few looks that hark back to our wonderful memories of simple
naivete.

Above: Valentino, emulating Red from Fraggle Rock
Above: Chris Benze emulating Wembly from Fraggle Rock
Above: Osman, trying Sweetums from the Muppets
Above: Peter Som, taking the cue from the one we love best- Cookie Monster. I really really love the color of the fur on this coat, but nothing else you wear would be able to ccompliment the intensity of it.

Above: Alberta Ferreti, doing Sam the Eagle from the Muppets. This ones my favorite look. Yes, it does look like a muppet skin but the style of it is very cute.

All pics taken from here, all from the designers' fall '10 lines.

Exploration

There's a certain allure to the idea of hinting at nudity, playing with it like a delicate bubble. The goal is to stack as many as you can on top of the other until all explode because the laws of physics likes to crush the magic of liquid bubbles.
So nudity. Should it be filtered against those who find it questionable?

In letterpress I decided to make my own calling cards. Its going to have my wonderfully long name and email and the theme is clowns. After spending about the 3 hours working on setting the type, I finally finished and put in the girl clowns to surround my email. Proudly I expected Miss Denise to tell me 'good job.' Eagerly watching her count off the spacers and reversed letters, she takes a moment to actually look at the little clowns.
'Uhm, Carmen, maybe you want to change you're figures?' Her face is sort of pensive. At first I give her a questioning look.
'Why Miss Denise?' And then my face becomes alarmed.
'Does it look stupid?!' Miss Denise just smiles.
'No, well. I mean, the clowns-they're naked.' At that moment I decided that Miss Denise is my new favorite art teacher, who I respect, look up to, and actually admire.
'HAHA! Oh, Miss Denise I know that already!' We smiled big smiles.
'Ok Carmen, just making sure.' Tomorrow I think I'll be printing them out, and I'm excited!

Back to the wonderful case of nudity, I really like it when its tastefully done. Of course the usual problem with models is that they suffer from being underfed, but if you can just ignore that for a bit and observe the curve of the body, the way she bends her waist and the muscles contracting on her thighs. Very interesting poses too. I'm really impressed with this photoshoot. That ribbon body suit is so beautiful, I can't stand it.

The past few weeks have been ok. I skipped out on my figure drawing class because I was feeling shitty, and now I'm really regretting it. And I'm having a problem with censorship in my art design class, for the stupidest reason in the world. My dad once again said I'm never going to get into college, which is very tiresome to hear every few weeks or so. But at least I'm slowly exploring my creativity.

Arts always something to look forward to.
