At my mother's, the only childhood movie that has stayed with me until today has been the Labyrinth. Yes, David Bowie's tight lycra pants haunted my dreams along with his little band of goblins. Seriously-I was terrified of that movie and always protested to seeing it. Needless to say that now I feel a bit smug whenever a Labyrinth reference comes up, and my sister and I have recently bonded again over how we skipped the whole 'let's slowly ease into watching more mature movies'.
It was Labyrinth during breakfast and then Zoolander for dinner, skipping over the sex scenes when necessary.
Yup. Loooove my childhood movies!
I found some art inspired by the Labyrinth that made me giggle, and decided to go to the art opening itself in downtown. Very packed and overwhelming, but the art was so beautiful and creative.

SOOOO MUCH LOLZ! And this isn't the finished version. At the art show, the waistband of underwear peeked over his hips and read 'Dance Magic Dance.' If that isn't art, I don't know what is ;]

Versace's fall look is the epitome of what I want my wardrobe to be like. Everything black and grey and metallic. The way the clothes are cut in certain places, its fucking brilliant!
My favorite though has to be the last dress-perfect for a bit of partying.

Daimonds, Bitch
She is very, very beautiful. Her name is Judith Bedard, on the cover of Vogue Nippon April 2010.
There's just something about the extravagance of it all, the way her rhinestone studded nails glare more than her single eye. The two sets of eyelashes that accentuate the curves of eyeliner. I want this to be on the street.

Inside Out Veins
Have you ever seen those pictures of girls at Las Vegas clubs who have elaborate clothes painted on them? But when you look closer you see that they're NAKED.
...Now that's just icky. ;}
Body paint, for me, has never really stood out as art. Sure, sometimes I see one of these showgirls and think 'wow, that's really pretty' but its always generic.
I've never really thought of the process a model must go through to become perfectly painted. There would be such intimacy, more than a painted with a naked model-because that's from a good foot or so away. But a painted who paints on the model knows every fact of his/her body. The way the artist needs to take in the different way the body is shaped with curves and planes, it all needs to be observed and cataloged so the painting isn't too much affected by it.
I came across this artist's website who experimented with body paint, but took it to the next level.
Warning: XTREME BEAUTY
Unfortunately I can't read a thing on this website, so I can't give any credit to the painters/photographers, but you can check out the rest of this breathtaking collection here: http://2photo.ru/en/post/17575

The forum that I followed this link from was on a steampunk site, and this is where the style of steampunk comes into play. In less than 10 words, steampunk is a sub-culture that emulates the late Victorian era with an alternative look at the Industrial age through art/clothing/music/writing. Not less than 10 words, but basically the nitty gritty of what steampunk is. I'll talk more about it when I have more info, but if you need a better definition find it here.
Anyway, this is what the clothing looks like. The body paint is meant to accentuate it and the fact that the pattern/style is like machinery.
The rest are just the different ways the body paint was used. Enjoy.

If You Like White Lines and Cheese
The next project that I've been assigned for my Art Design class is creating a line of shoes with the theme of Art Nouveau, so shoes are on my mind! So far I've sketched shoes inspired by mermaids and fire, and I guess I'll post them later when I'm satisfied with it.
shoes, n.: houses for your feet
These are fucking bitching houses.
Raphael Young Fall 2010
The way the heels are shaped is so fascinating. Typically a heel is straight, but Young experimented with geometric angles and curved lines. Color is also really eye catching. Overall its really impressive, except I would never wear the alpaca fur one.

Lines and Smudges
I finally finished my first figure drawing class! WHOOOOO! Lovely, lovely class and I actually want to take another one with the same teacher. Hopefully I get the scholarship, so keep your fingers crossed! Here are some of my best pieces, and then we had all our work put up in our last day of class for people to walk in and appreciate.
Your thoughts will be loved on what you think about them, I promise.

And the rest of these are mine. The first is with a charcoal pencil, the rest with vine charcoal. I really like using vine charcoal versus any other type of medium. The two last poses were done during 2 periods of 25 minutes, the first 15.
I can't really draw faces, so usually the drawings I like are with the people turned away ^^'
